Reliquary and Cathedral Comparison

Because of pilgrimage sites and reliquaries, people have been exploring the world because of religion. Comparisons can be drawn between these sites and between the importance of objects that pilgrims have visited.  I will be comparing both reliquaries in these sites and the sites themselves in Cologne, Germany and Amiens, France. Each selected object or site has been built at a similar point in history with a similar type of Provenance and have similar importance to those who visit. Comparisons and contrasts will be drawn between the Cologne Cathedral and it’s Three Magi Shrine and the Amiens Cathedral and its shrine to St. John the Baptist to get a better understanding of what the gothic style of art and architecture was.
