Reliquaries: Formed by Function

This exhibit explores how the unique ways in which medieval Christians used reliquaries affected how they were made and dictated their final forms.  The four items of the exhibit each reflect different popular forms of reliquaries; a chasse reliquary, a personal reliquary, a “speaking” reliquary, and a statue reliquary.  Each of these items were meant to serve different purposes, by different people, and to be used in very specialized ways.
